Utbah Masud joined Fairmont as an Associate in 2017. He comes to Fairmont from Textron Aviation where he served as a handling qualities and aircraft performance engineer for new products. During his time at Textron Aviation (and previously Cessna Aircraft Company), Utbah worked on models in all different aircraft categories manufactured by the company: pistons, turboprops, small jets (Part 23) and large jets (Part 25). Most recently, Utbah was tasked with analyzing performance characteristics of the Citation Hemisphere – Textron Aviation’s entry into the large cabin business jet market. Utbah also served as a performance engineer in different capacities on previously-certificated Citation models.
As a handling qualities engineer, Utbah analyzed the stability and control characteristics of the airplanes, focusing on empennage sizing, pilot feel system modeling, airplane responses in degraded/failure stability modes and flight controls. Part of his work on flight controls led to a patent award by the USPTO titled “Systems and Methods for Aircraft Control Surface Hardover and Disconnect Protection” where Utbah was a co-inventor. For his contributions to the company above and beyond the normal responsibilities, Utbah was awarded the company’s Leading Edge award in 2013.
